The bane of democracy - poor people

That's why one-man-one-vote don't work... the poor will have their say...
How would you feel if you get disqualified from voting because your salary is too low, or your education is considered insufficient or for any other similar sick and silly reason?
This joker is only interested in a system that keeps him in power ...

My God... was it taken out of context? Misquoted by reporter? No sane public figure would make such statement and expect to garner support.

Imo he is right. If u look at the messy situation in some neighbouring country, Thailand, and a good example Taiwan, 2 decades ago, they lead asia's 4 little dragon....they even train sg in many fields including military....about 10 yrs ago they dominant in semi conductor, almost every components in ur pc except Intel processor is made in Taiwan, they were so many mnc sets foot in Taiwan. However after they staryed to have elected president, Lee, Chen and now Ma....look at now...a lot of their graduate s oit of job, some even fly to sg to be teachers and casino croupier which paid 2k+....so this is the fact if u want full democracy. ..

I believe the idea of "more weightage to your vote if you contributed more to Singapore" was raised.

This is rubbish. Taiwan has a set of problems not because of its democracy but because China started encroaching on the low to mid end of the Electronics market. The ssme thing happened in Singapore mind you. One day, someone else will eat Singapore's lunch and what then? Mind you, we pretty much are running out of ideas to expand the economy.

The real problem with Hong Kong is that Hong Kongers are replaceable and that there are very few ways to climb the economic ladder. No matter how much democracy there is, the threat of Shanghai and the other Eastern ports will pretty much ensure they are between a rock and hard place.

Within 50 years, the Republic of Singapore will merge once again with the Malaya Federation. Another 100 years, Southeast Asia will officially be inducted into yet another East Asian Cultural Sphere "Sinosphere" / Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere extending as far out as the Second Island Chain (Papua / New Guinea). Between these periods, there will be chaos, death and tribulation.

Alternative scenario: we will be part of the Great Sumatran Caliphate.
