Probably will only meetup for group photo..and everyone is allowed to shoot alone or regroup for smaller cluster. Have fun!
Advice for 1st timers:
This was discussed during RT with Blazy for those who first time join Canon Marathon.
Shared some experience I had for participating the competition as this year is my 4th year participating.
1) Be early for the event if you don't want to clash in the long queue. Need to be there around 6.30am, the registeration most probably start at 7.00-7.30am.
2) You may like to have your breakfast after the registeration. Do take note the Macs and other foodcourts in the Suntec are still closed in the morning. For me, I will have my breakfast, after the annoucement of the 1st theme. This time is 9.00am. Best if any volunteers willing to station there to receive the theme, while you guys having the breakfast, but you will miss the mass group photos like last year.
3) You guys would like to brainstorm together based on the annouced theme. Create your own picture based on the theme. Prefered each individuals go and shoot by your own, going in groups will result similar shots and trust me common shots will be rejected by judges due to lack of uniqueness.
4) Shoot in jpeg. Try to make use of your camera settings to create effects, like picture styles or white balance. Try not to use laptop to edit the photos, unless you need bigger screen to view the photos. Remember, picture originality is always the winning factor.
5) Try to be back early for photo submission. Base on the last year experience, there will be more than 10 over laptops in the ground floor of Suntec for downloading photos. Back early, will give you enough rest for the next theme and not stuck in the last minute queue.
6) Practice radar shooting, 1st theme go further away, 2nd theme closer, 3rd theme closest. This will help you in saving your strength during the day shoot. Try make use of the surroundings for creativity shots.
7) Lastly, always think out of the box. Difference with other shots always capture judges attention.

BTW, I will be joining my master during the event to guide first time shooters for the shots. ..... this is another opportunity to learn from him.
