Dear friends,

If you love music and visual arts, please come down to our opening night of our exhibition "SUPERNOVA" at the Substation, this thursday 4 August, 7pm.

About "SUPERNOVA"
Supernova is a celebration of four decades of pop music in Singapore – a visual art exhibition at The Substation and music performances at Timbre Bistro & Bar.

A visual display of photography, graphics and passion for music, the exhibition will be featuring 40 portraits of Singapore’s very own musical stars photographed by upcoming celebrity photographer Lance Lee, and artwork by award-winning graphic designer David Lee.

Personalities featured in the exhibition include our very own Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah, pop icon Dick Lee,Taiwan’s Best New Artist Award Winner JJ Lin Jun Jie and familiar names such as Tanya Chua, Parking Lot Pimp, Maia Lee, Budak Pantai and many more ... The exhibition will be shown at the Substation Gallery from 4 – 14 August, spanning over the country’s 40th national day celebration on 9 August.

The Artists
David is a designer, visual artist and performer who loves photography, food and all things aesthetically pleasing. He went to London a year and a half ago to pursue his interest in graphic design, and has been enjoying every single moment of what London has to offer since.

His design works recently appeared in the Design Week Magazine UK, and he will soon also be featured in Latest Arts Magazine UK as one of the ‘25 top talents to look out for’. David is also the winner of the Young Designers Award Singapore for both 1997 and 1998.

More recently, he also won a commendation award in the coveted Design and Art Direction (D&AD) Student Award for his illustration work. He is currently a final year full-time student at prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design pursuing a BA in Graphic Design, and a part-time online junkie.

Supernova is his second collaborative exhibition, after last August’s ‘Coming and Going’ exhibition held at the SRT Gallery.

A photojournalist and fashion photographer, Lance started his career shooting for The Straits Times from 1997 to 2000. He became a freelancer in 2001 working for news agencies, magazines and stock libraries. Lance joined ACHT! Studios as its partner and chief photographer in 2004. Lance has photographed Taufik Batisah, Dick Lee, Olinda Cho, Parking Lot Pimp and other musicians for various magazines and album artwork. Some of the unpublished and exclusive images will be featured in this exhibition. His personal projects include:

Migrant Workers
A photo-documentary exhibited in the Singapore History Museum in May 2003.

My Sisters :Their Stories
A Social documentary series on transsexualism published as a coffee table book of the same title by Viscom Editions in February 2003.

>38 deg: A documentary project commissioned by the Singapore History Museum to photograph the doctors and nurses working in Tan Tock Seng Hospital during the SARS period in 2003. The photos were later exhibited in a 3-month exhibition at the museum and published into 2 books.
