Nobody rules in this world, not even the politicians as they are all engaged in a deadly game of chess. To serve themselves, to further their own interests and to score points with the people so that they can stay in power longer to stretch whatever resources they have in this game of chess.

"There is no pure altruism". Or so the saying goes. Unless the chap's a Saint.

Don't forget the world's most powerful person is a cowboy :bsmilie:

What is a king if his power is not absolute and his word the law itself?

True power is completely arbitrary, otherwise it is not.

But most 'kings' today only pretend they are and play play at it.

Depends, the king as a ruler or the king as a ceremony fig. head of state?

Look at the king of Thailand. He's not the ruler but he knows that his standing in Thailand is ever higher than the prime minster or even the highest court in the land, yet he's a very humble man. The royal families in some other countries have a lot to learn from him.

That's what I meant "play play".

Humble does not mean anything insofar as power is concern, by definition, ie if the king is not play play one, and have really really real power, he can be humble or arrogant or sadistic or benevolent or whatever, or humble today and cruel tomorrow, no one can do or even say anything - he can push an old woman down and break her legs or give her flowers, after pushing her down, its utterly the king's prerogative. That's the meaning of real power.

But then fortunately - or unfortunately(?) - there may be no one with really really real power in this world. Or maybe I am wrong. There is still Pay And Pay. But then again ...

There's a proverb, "When the Emperor commits murder, he's liable to be executed as well."

But maybe due to cultural differences, they probably don't subscribe to the proverb.

cos Emperor kill people dun need reason....
"君要臣死, 臣不得不死"
