am a bit wary of your statement ".... camera produces very good portrait shots...", which seems to imply that by buying such a camera (if it exists), you will immediately get good portrait shots. A bit naive to think that way, if that is indeed what you're saying.
That being said, I guess with most portrait shots, it would be beneficial to have a camera with a large aperture to achieve shallow DOF. Do compact cameras specify their lens' maximum apertures? I'm not too sure.
