sigma 17-35mm or 17-70mm?

Wondering if anyone here can help me with the difference between 17-35mm f2.8 and 17-70mm f2.8 both by Sigma. Other than the extra distance, any difference in optical or picture quality?

Which will be a better deal?

Of course the dream would be the Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8.

Think the 17-70mm sigma is not constant f2.8, so you'll have to factor that in. You can consider the sigma 18-50 f2.8 or Tamron 17-50 f2.8 also
