Yup its problably motion blur. You should have gone f/2.5 and bumped up the shutter speed to 1/50 I do like the seocnd shot though.

zeraviel, why don't you try taking some photos again using higher iso & shutter speed to freeze the motion.

1st one looked ok.

try to set a minimum shutter speed of 1/80 of your 50mm lens to avoid camera shake, sometimes 1/80 is not fast enough to freeze the creature's movement too. Bring it out to the outdoor and u can go to as fast as 1/200th easily for low iso
