SGTrekker 2D1N Batam Photography Excursion (25-26 June '11)

Without you? Sigh... let us have the honour lah, LowLights.
We have waited a long long time already... what say you?

Jialat, another wave of unrest in Egypt. Hopefully everything settled down by the time you all go there.

Both you and Dorothy shots are improving at a very scarily rate .. all very good ..

Compositionally I like them all .. Clap Clap

At this rate .. I will be left way way behind

Have not take a serious shot for the last ..er when did we go Myanmar ah ?

Time for you to wake up from your hibernation lah ... haha

Bintan (24/25 Sept) looks interesting.

Sunset coming at the Fishing Village at Belakang Padang...

Some more record shots...

We were all searching high and low for angles to shoot when Adrian suddenly exclaimed.
Looking up towards where he was looking, I saw SereneXMM immersed in vegetations just besides the village.
Adrian said:

"Wow, look at that!"
he said. "That is a nice scene, it brings out her colour..."

Ok lor. Adrian says nice, it must be kinda nice. So I got to shoot lor.

It was late already.
By the time we arrived at the entrance to the fishing village the sun was quite low already.
Worried about losing the opportunity to shoot a nice sunset, and eager to break the SgTrekker taboo, Adrian and Melvin started kicking some butts...

Here was the beginning of the village which consisted of houses connected (again) by wooden plank platforms. We were given some time to shoot around.
Melvin nagged:

"Ok Ladies and Gentlemen,we will now have a chance to shoot around this village. You guys can walk clockwise along the platform where it is more stable, don't walk the other way as the wooden planks there are not stable. Remember, you have got to be back here at 5:30pm to shoot fisherman throw net with sunset at the background..."

A few of us started walking clockwise along the platform.
Here, there were many holes in the wooden platform that have been patched up with planks. The platform was really shaky and we could feel it swing under our feet as we walked. One of our female team members in front of me let out a small yelp when it happened. I blur blur... still didn't realise it was swinging until I walked to that part.

As we rounded the corner, we saw an uncompleted (or abandoned) house... Looking at the half gone platform, I don't think any one of us dared venture that way...

Walked and walked we did, trying to follow Melvin till the end of the village out at the sea. Until we finally come to a horizontal platform directly over-looking a final row of houses on stilt. The sun was really low by then. And I could see that Melvin and Adrian were frantically finding the optimal angle for the sunset shoot... the fisherman was on standby on his sampan already...

Fisherman throwing net in the sunset...

Hmmm... Ladies and Gentlemen, my sunset shots of this magical scene all could not make it.
So waiting for you all to post your shots.
Come, come... post post.

... leaving the Fishing Village...

My shots of the fisherman really no-three-no-four.
Dare not even put any of them out.
I can only continue my record shots and narration of the trip.
So, the good old Detail one shoot 'tak-tak-tak-tak-tak..', ok done. Detail two shoot 'tak-tak-tak-tak...'. Ok, Detail three..
Shoot until the fisherman's arms also tired liao... Haha...

Then finally how?
Walk back to take sampan lor.. back to the main island of Batam.
We walked and walked and walked...
Then suddenly we heard, just behind us, laughter and the sound of wheels... Lydialee was on a special mission!

Wah... wasn't that great?! Got special vehicle to send her all the way back to the jetty yah!
I also want!

But there was only one trishaw available.
So the rest of us just had to walk all the way back lor...

Nah... don't say we never say hor.
It was at the point in time when this question was on everybody's mind:
"We all carried our tripods the whole day, waiting to use them. Now the sunset is here, when and where we will be deploying our tripod?"

Well, by the time we walked to the jetty, the sun was long gone.
Sorry. Sunset not guaranteed... so all of you guys 收工 (pack up)... keep your tripods.
Keep them for tomorrow's sunrise ba! Hahaha....

Home sweet home... but only to the main Batam Island.

Well, it's around 6:30pm already.
And we were all on board the sampans braving the waves back to the main island.
It had been a fun trip out to this small island of Pulau Penawar Rindu.

Here is a 535nm IR shot of a few of us on the sampan.

Reaching Sekupang Jetty, we jumped up our minibuses, awaiting the 30 mins trip to a sumptious seafood dinner at Golden Prawn 933.
... and perhaps looking forward even more to what was to come after that....

Another 535 IR shot.

How many times did this poor guy have to cast his net?

sunset

it was the first time for me to shoot like that.. on a platform and the fisherman threw out the net .. donno how many times he threw ... i think maybe around 15 times.
the people staying around the houses there must be finding us very amused.. thinking we crazy bunch of people. Whats there to take?? A fisherman throw net? hahaha
we macam like suah ku like that....
when the net was throw out, it was not the scene of us taking pictures that is the attraction, I think it was the sound of our clicking of camera that is gaining all the attraction.
imagine the sound --- like machine guns llike that.. how many frames per second??? it sounded so nice suddenly

When we all finished and walked out to the starting point, I took a last picture of it. it was already 5.50 pm

Haha... good one, reservoir88!
Look at the expression on her face after seeing herself in Nleong's camera LCD!!!

Hello reservoir88, I'm very inspired by all your photos!

Well said.

Thank you all. We are the ones that are inspired after meeting all the masters at the outings. Portrait master, landscape master, IR master, lighting master, equipment master etc, and not forgetting the master travelogue writer and champion poster. Picked up so many tips.
