Hi to all in clubsnap, i'm going for a trip to Guangzhou and Hong Kong. I intend to bring my Canon 40D with Tamron 17-35mm and a 50mm. is this set up adequate for my travel? Will do mostly landscape, group photo and some portrait shoot. Or do I need another lens?

Thank you for your feedback.

To each his or her own, really...

On APC, it was 18-70mm and 70-300mm (then) for me.

On 35mm, it is 17-35mm and 85mm for me.

YMMV

Enjoy your trip.

It's totally your choice :)

My preference is UWA (eg. 12-24) + fast prime (eg. 35/1.8) + tele zoom (eg. 55-200), if that counts for anything...

Bring a telephoto lens just in case you need it to take photos of landscapes...

last time i go on my HK + china trip i brought my 19-35mm & 28-75mm, in the end i use the 19-35mm most of the times, i only use the 28-75 for some stage performance shoots

Thank you for all the wonderful obtions. Look like my 17-35mm is coming with me cos 17mm for landscape and 35m for portrait and group photograph. Maybe loan a 55-250 for telephoto to cover the range.

Please continue to provide more obtions as I will only be leaving on 21/05.

Thank you once again.

if you have an 18-200 (or the newer variants) it might be more useful as a travel lens than 17-35 since you don't lose much at the wide end and gain much more range and reach. and it pratically covers your needs instead of bringing both 17-35 and 55-250.

Also depends on how much you can carry without feeling burdened. I used to travel with a 18-200mm (for most shots), 10-20mm (for the wide landscapes) and a 50mm f1.8 (for low light/night shots) for my 400D. realised i actually used 18-200 most of the time in the end. least used was the 50mm.

suggest you bring what you feel happy with and don't bring too much otherwise you end up too tired to take photos or swap lenses, since i presume you will also bring along a tripod.
