my, am i glad there is a guy like you who put things straight. For a moment this discussion was describing olympus to be so good that i thought it is better than the canons. I nearly want to dump my oly.

I own olympus for two reason.

I went to the camera shop and asked for the camera that shoot the worst pictures. The salesman first took out a pentax, i said i want something really worse, he then shoved the oly to me said this was it. I said this camera really shoot crap pictures? Yup he said. I said what if some good pictures come out of it? He the said then you are a damn good photographer loh.

i bought olympus on the spot and never look back.

You see i have an ego bigger than the canonians or nikonians, when my pictures are good i don't want to share any credit with my camera.

The other reason is since owning a oly pussy, i have more pussy humour that i see lacking in my cankon friends.

Wish everyone well.....;);):p:p

hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

I seriously like that ego of yours. :)

...and when your pictures are no good, you blame the camera? :bsmilie:

I dont understand the Canon/Nikon bashing over here. So does it mean all users who bought these two brands are blinded, or like sheeps who follows without the ability to think, or do research? And that those who chose Olyumpus or other less popular brands are "the smarter consumers"? These makes you no difference from the canon/nikon fanboys which you so detests.

All brands/camera bodies/lenses are made to cater to their specific audiences; be it professionals, semi-pro, serious hobbyists, casual shooters, budget users, students, uncles aunties grandparents. Like Anson pointed out, The Equipment is only as good as it's wielder, which i totally agree.

And why should we be pissed off when we see someone using a pro body with a big lens, but shoots in auto mode? Its their money to burn, and it helps the economy as well. Everyone is free to choose whatever brand and the type of lens (kit lens or pro lenses) they want; whether they are doing the equipment justice thats another qn. :)

of course not. the statements here were reactions to what the TS "friends" told him that his camera is less just because its an Olympus. to quote:

People are saying my olympus e-620 is not good while having a canon 1000d is good enough.

from what i've read, the general consensus on this thread is that it doesnt matter what brand camera you have but how you use it. i dont think anybody said all canon/nikon users are sheeps or blinded, but there is obviously a certain group who are blinded by the brand and that's what people here were talking about.

just like the quote from the TS, i could not understand how the 1000D will be better than e-620... a multi-awarded and appreciated camera, if not for the brand.

actually if you go to some camera shops, if you inquire about Olympus cameras, the usual comment is that it is not for "serious photography". so we have to understand the dilemma some newbies face if they have 2nd thoughts on their cameras from claims by others who might not know much about the brand the are discriminating against.

3 things:

1. LOL
2. I like to know that shop
3. I really like to see your photos

Between the 2 brands, u need to ask urself which is the part u can do w/o

Is PP ur strong point?
Is MP an important factor?
Is weight & price a burden?
Which look u like overall from the 2 sys?
Noise imp to u?
AF performance good?
3rd party accessories support?
Good resale market crucial?
Other tech aspect like DR, app support from manufacturer, RW speed, etc mean anything to u?
etc, etc, the list goes on

So basically u r looking at a complete sys solution, something which u can grow over time, which one suits u better. i've both sys & its kind of interesting, i find Canon has a certain crispiness in the pics & Oly has good colors.

What i feel oly needs to addr now is the DR, MP & noise. All else r secondary & they have already gotten the lens & colors right. Can the new E-pro pull it off? Only time will tell. The competition is very tough, even Sony now is eating into the m43 territory & the rumoured A950 is looking very very good. ;)

Another note is that all sys out there today have enuf lens lineup to cover most kinds of photography (macro, landscape, portrait, wildlife, astronomy, microscopy), so i wudn't worry too much about the lenses, flash, grip, etc. Unless u specialise in T/S, then Oly not for u.

Lastly, dun be taken in by what night86mare said. His pics won competitions becos his cam & comp very good. HAHAHAHA!!! SWITCH SYS NOW OLY USERS, ITS NOT GOING TO MAKE U BETTER, BUT ITS DEFINITELY GOING TO BOOST THE ECONOMY!! HAHAHAHA!!

(quickly run away & hide)

I'm a nikon user.. but if given a choice between canon and olympus, I would also choose canon. One of my reason are the 2 things you said which I agree. (1) more choices for lens, and (2) many people use it. My main reason will be 2 because this also means (1) I have more choices for 2nd hand lenses, (2) I can easily borrow from friends who also have canon setup, (3) I have more choices for 3rd party lenses and accessories. This has nothing to do with the capability of olympus but more on being practical.

I think you should be happy with what you have and change brand only if you got a real reason to do so and not because of "trends" and other intangible reasons.

Same here. I moved out of the m4/3 (so includes both Panasonic and Olympus) for abovementioned reasons. One more is that sensor for m4/3... it was time for me to move to a bigger sensor so I chose Nikon cropped factor. At some point a few years down the road, I may even move to FF :dunno:

I wonder if car forums will also have people posting why they should buy Toyota instead of Honda, Nissan, Suzuki :dunno:

it was time for me to move to a bigger sensor so I chose Nikon cropped factor.

Why are people always taken in by that...the APS sensor isn't that much larger than FourThirds/Micro IF you do the math of vertical and horizontal separately!

The biggest difference in the size is in the horizontal, and that's only due to the difference between the 4:3 and 3:2 ratios, but vertical height is only the smallest of difference, a measly 1.8mm difference for Canon, 2.7mm difference for Nikon between FourThirds and APS-C!

Wow this thread actually survived this long? Well for me, i don't really care if people say Oly is a lousy brand. I think the cam can produce decent pictures and with a little pp can be outstanding. It really makes me smile when people commented that my shots are nice because what some didn't know is that these "nice" pictures came from a brand that they say is "lousy". If they say that my picture is boring and plain, its not the camera's fault either, i am the one that lacks the creativity to create a memorable decent picture. That's it.

So many pple using iPhone and say my Android sucks. Shud I switch?
So many pple buying LCD TV and say my Plasma is obselete. Shud I switch?
So many pple buying Toyota and Honda and say my Opel sucks. Shud I switch?
So many pple drinking Spinelli/Starbucks and say going to Kopitiam is orbiang. Shud I follow?
And the list goes on.....

There's no right or wrong. Make the best of what you have is the most important I think. If all else fails, SWITCH!! :bsmilie:

"Why so many people use canon rather than olympus? "

because Canon spends more on marketing while Olympus spends more on R&D

...and when your pictures are no good, you blame the camera? :bsmilie:

Aik Shh....ssshhh...this is the 3rd reason I buy Olympus. A privilege that Olypussian get to enjoy..:):)

Haha, switch your GPS to Pussy Humour and you will find the shop.

Btw, I did post some pictures here, just search my nick. If you don't like them ...well..what do you expect ? It is Olympus. :)

Well, whether canon or olympus, the setup of lenses are important... not forgetting ur budget... and the available reviews for research before purchasing...
I'm still stuck btwn canon and pentax, but leaning more towards canon due to #mm lenses available like 24L II, 135L, 85 F1.8 for expansion.
Well more importantly as an end user, is how connected you are to your camera... Each system has pros and cons. criteria for choosing them is What would u want to fight for, and what can u compromise...

I'm using canon because of the broad range of manual lens :bsmilie:
anyway the one who use the camera is far far important than the brand :bsmilie:

yr friends have ego issue. time to change yr friends. not changing to canon. or consider sony nex :)
