Data researchers Pete Warden and Alasdair Allan have discovered that Apple's iPhone and 3G-equipped iPad models running iOS 4.x store a detailed history of device location data on both the device and within computer backups created when syncing with iTunes. This data, which by default is not kept in encrypted or protected form, can be viewed with a program (Mac only, it appears) the researchers created to demonstrate their discovery.
