Eye-Fi has announced that later this year it will be possible to send photos from one of its SD memory/Wi-Fi combo cards direct to a supported smartphone or tablet without the need for a third party app. The feature, called Direct Mode, will require a firmware update for X2-series Eye-Fi cards as well as a mobile device app from Eye-Fi. Both are to be made available at no charge.
