Hi All, the theme for May 2010 is "undiscovered". This theme is designed for us to explore the "undiscovered" parts of our everyday life in Singapore. It can be anything subject matter that you feel can be re-discovered or even un-covered....

Rules are very simple:

1. Competition period May 8th to May 31st 2010
2. Please submit 2 of your best shots with a short explanatory of how "undiscovered" figures into your submission by May 31st 2010
3. A separate thread will be set up later in the last week of May, either in CS or Flickr, for you to submit your entries
4. All entries will be judged American Idol style by your fellow members
5. Judging period will be from June 1st to June 7th, 2010
6. Top 3 entries will be posted by June 8th 2010: winner has bragging rights for the rest of the month (haha) and a virtual blue ribbon (wow!)
7. Gentlemens/Ladies rules, please
8. Enjoy!

I call this "Re-Discovered". I remember in the early eighties, seeing the quay for the first time, it was dirty and polluted but bustling with activities. Going back further, the river was the lifeline of our commerce, and "lighters" were carrying cargoes to the huge warehouses. Singaporeans were accustomed to seeing paintings and photos of the river quay.

Fast forward to 2010. The river is once again alive, revived and bustling. "Lighters" have been converted to ride tourists. The quayside is now full of first rate restaurants, micro-breweries and the night life is vibrant.

For this photo, I shot it this year with a CL and an Elmar 90mm lens. The film is Ilford XP-2 super, which, when souped with Rodinal Stand, produces a brown-sepia tone to the photo, emphasizing the nostalgic atmosphere to the photo.

#01 Don't leave home without it
Leica MP + Summilux 50mm f1.4 E43 + Ektachrome 64

A visit to tiger balm garden with Arkira and gang. I thought it was a place long dead but apparently the Japanese guide book still writes about it. I'm pretty sure they havent update in awhile :(

I was about 10 the last time I went and had night-mares the following night after viewing all the strange sculptures with strange stories - Chinese version of hell. Rabbit and goat in human clothes going to have sex? naked mermaids with strange faces? White bear (polar bear???) in the mountains that looks like wolf? and the strangest of all has got to be crab with human head and there are plentiful around. strange.. strange...

Heard they are tearing down the place for good next year, so do drop by the 10 levels of hell and see your punishment for the bad deeds you have committed this lifetime. Graphic content with violent nature. and to think this was "the place" the hang-out place during the 70s. Yes, packed like orchard road like today!

#2 Climb

A stranger in the night. While having a stroll with my friends after dinner I saw a stranger in the back alley. Knowing the back light was going to cast him into a silhouette, I decided to quickly capture it. He seems to be looking up on the balcony, I wonder if he was going to climb... Taken with the dream lens, it has a very surreal feel to me I can't explain.

Hi snits, not really just as long as you are frank about when it was taken and give us a nice narrative of your thoughts in the submission. Looking forward to seeing your work!!

you are too kind mate! ;)

Actually I remembered quite disturbed by the place when I was a kid then. Super stranger even when I look at it now. Some weird fetish thingy is going on in the sculptor's mind man for sure... Very twisted.

The problem is I copied during one of my test when I was a kid, so I have to have my intestine dug out or something like that ;s

So no point saving money, Im going to buy all the chrome ASPH lenses to complete my collection tmr!

dovevader....yeah and i am going to buy the Leica CM that i always wanted....or even the summarit 1.5f that i can't afford...

This was taken when I had my first digital RF, the RD-1. Can't recall the lens, but I think it was a Summarit 50 1.4. Taken at the Singapore Botanical gardens.

rediscovering simple objects like this old pussy willow in my house. rediscovery of things we take for granted in a different light different perspective

Games people play

The boardgame which me and siblings/cousins used to play when we were board during the school holidays. Discovered the game in a little corner near the sultan mosque.

Shot was taken some time last year using Bessa R and industar lens.

Look up!

For me, the undiscovered is what we don't look for or see very often and that for me is looking up. I wouldn't have been able to get these without looking up. =)

This is part II of the "Rediscovered" theme into Clark Quay.

This pictures shows Singapore's Past, the Present and the Future, all co-existing well together despite the different eras.

The lighters (boats), Victorial Theatre Clock tower and buildings represent the colonial past.

The bridge is the rock-solid present.

And the hotel resort and gambling casino in the background is the future ? Hahaha LOL
