Recommendation for prosumer cam

A friend has asked me to recommend a prosumer camera mainly for taking photos of his children. His main grouse so far with pns is the shutter lag.

Have been out of touch with the prosumer section for a while. I personally have a Fuji F31 which I find fantastic for portraits but I think my friend is prepare to spend a little more for a higher range camera.

Any recommendations here?
