Recommend me a beginner zoom lens

I just got my first lens as well after mulling over what to get for the longest of time ! My best friend highly recommended (in fact practically "insisted") that I strongly consider the Canon 70-200 f4 L. Due to budget constrain, I realised that the price difference between the IS and non IS is 850. Since it is a considerably light lens, I decided to save the $850 (maybe for a flash later as I get more advance) and went for the non IS.

Guess what, I had it only for 3 days and I love it sooooo much already ! To me, it is the best thing I have ever invested on (next to my cam!)

I can share with you a sample of my photos taken with the 70-200 f4 L :-

I agree... for mid telephoto range, just go for Canon 70-200 ranges... Depends on your budget & type of photography...got 4 different models.... I strongly suggest 70-200 F4 IS L if you prefer very sharp images at the lens's wide open aperture. But if budget is a concern, the 70-200 F4 Non IS is also OK...just a slight degraded in its sharpness.

WOOO.. Seen the photos. They are like too good to be true. Thats what i want. L is the way to go.

wow. the picture is great. did u shoot them at f4 at 200mm??
