I'm using a nikon coolpix 5700 at the moment, and it uses non-standard (as compared to 35mm systems) apertures of say,
f/2.8-f/3.2-f/3.5-f/4.0

My Qn is simply: Does anyone know if each step increase in aperture of my camera is equivalent to "one stop" in the 35mm systems?

ie. Is the exposure at f/2.8 at 1sec equivalent to f/3.2 at 2sec?

Also, does it mean that the usual light meters are useless for digital cameras since they do not use the usual aperture sizes?

nope.. the stops are the same for slr or for ur digicam...

f/2.8 and f/4.0 are one stop apart no matter wat cam...

those in between are 1/3 or even 1/2 stops or... watever.. hheeee :D

Beginner SLR always use 1/2 stop standard. However, most digital and Pro SLR uses 1/3 Stop standard.

ie. Is the exposure at f/2.8 at 1sec equivalent to f/3.2 at 2sec?

f/2.8 at 1sec = f/4 at 2 Sec

f2.8 to f.3.2 is 1/3 stop increment not 1 stop.
