Fifteen people are trapped aboard a ship that's going to sink in exactly 20 minutes. Their only chance of survival is the five-person life raft stowed on their vessel. To make matters worse, the waters around the ship are teeming with man eating sharks, so swimming to safety is out of the question. A round trip to the nearest island and back to the boat takes nine minutes on the raft. How many people will live to see dry land?

ps: for those who know the answer, please dont spoil it. ;p

trip 1: 9min, 5 ppl on boat ferries 4 ppl on island.
trip 2: 18min, 5 ppl on boat ferries 5 ppl on island.

my guess: 9 people

M-20: 5 people leave on raft to island. 1 returns with raft to the boat at M-11 --> 4 people on island
M-11: Another 4 people board the raft and make it to the island with one person manning the raft and making it back to the boat --> 8 people on island.
M-2: The raft is now back at the boat (round-trip, remember?), another 4 more people board the raft and make it to the island (the boat will sink whilst they're on their way to the island).

Total no. of people to make it to the island: 4 + 4 + 5 = 13

well, kinda flawed... think primary school kids will ask, how long they take to board, etc...

imagine u say round trip = 9mins...

M20 : 5 left to shore... reach shore 4 (10 on ship)
M11 : 1 return, fetch 4... 8 on shore (7 on ship)
M2: when the 1 person is on the way back to the boat, happen so it start to sink already, and he get caught in the whirlpool... so eventually only 8 survive.

Scenario 1:
The first 5 will get help within a few mins, and eventually, everyone will get rescued before the ship sinks.

Scenario 2:
The 13 are stranded on a deserted island in nowhere, so eventually, there'll be no survivors.
