Hi guys,

I've totally no clues about photography.

Those normal size photos which fits into the regular photo albums..they are 4R in size, am i right?

To develope those pictures that size, the photos submitted to the shop must be at least how many megapixels?

Please advise.

Thanks.

recommended for 4R (6" x 4") images is 1800 x 1200 pixels (@ 300dpi)

don't worry about the dpi part if u are lost, just crop/resize to 1800 x 1200.

if u must know the megapixel amount it's: 2.16mp

1800 x 1200? but the resized image looks little weird coz it's not in proportions..

but if it's bigger than 1800 x 1200 also nvm right?

3R (3.5" x 5") --------- 1.5 megapixels
4R (4" x 6") ---------- 2.2 megapixels
5R (5" x 7") ---------- 3.2 megapixels
6R (6" x 8") ---------- 4.4 megapixels
8R (8" x 10") --------- 7.2 megapixels
Super 8R (12" x 8") ---- 8.7 megapixels

yes, doesn't really matter, as long is in 2:3 ratio, for 4R (4"x6")

pardon me, limited understanding here... hw come if i use 5 megapixel, i will hv to ask the person to do fit-in for me? if not, the top part will be cut off....

the ratio of your image is not 2:3, izit 3:4?
either you crop to 2:3 yourself, or ask for fit in to print on 4R, or ask for print on DSC 4R.

tks for the prompt response...

errm... not sure abt the ratio thou... juz find that if i request for fit-in, there'll b white border on the sides... was tinkin might s well ask for fit-in wif borders? mayb tat'll luk better (instead of juz 2 white borders @ the sides)? otherwise, wld reducing the resolution help? but den wats the use of buying a higher megapixel if ultimately i'm using a lower no? :hung:

btw wats DSC 4R? different from normal 4R?:dunno:

"DSC 4R" has a ratio of 4:3 (length:height) where 4R has a ratio of 3:2 (length:height)

Dimensions:
4R - 6 inch x 4 inch
DSC 4R - 6 inch x 4.5inch (some places call it 'digital 4R')

Hey

I got this from a website:
Q What should my digital camera image resolution size be?
A For optimum quality in prints, the following sizes for images are recommended:

Print Size Resolution (Pixel Size) After-Compressed File Size
--------------------------------------------------------------
4R 640x480 1200x800 150K to 250K
5R 1024x768 1400x1000 250K to 450K
6R 1280x1024 1600x1200 450K to 600K
8R 1600x1200 2000x1600 800K to 1MB

For sizing, I think most shops can provide optimum sizing...

If you live in Tampines and need to locate a shop that does cheap prints for digital photos, I can give you the contact. That shop provides prints @ 20cents per 4R print. Cheaper than the kiosks prices...

hope this helps :)

cheers
