Product photography help

Hi, can I get some suggestions on how to make a simple home-setup for taking good photographs of products like cellphones? Shld i get some kind of ready-made kit? or can i set it up myself? Also, how do professionals edit the photos such that they look like they are suspended and not resting on anything?

any help/advice wld be greatly appreciated!
