Preofessional L1 reviews

The dimensions and weight of the L1 (W-146mm, H-86mm, D-36mm, 606g) is probably more comparable to those of the Leica M cameras, in particular the M5 (W-150mm, H-86mm, D-64mm, 700g) and not the R series cameras. The L1 is also quite similar in dimensions to the E-330 (W-140mm, H-87mm, D-72mm, 617g) but surprisingly is lighter in weight.

The apparent heftiness you felt was probably due to the weight of the Leica lens that comes with the camera. I am sure most users would be severely disappointed if the Leica lens is as light as the 14-45mm kit lens that comes with the E-330. I suppose that if the Leica lens is too heavy and you don't want it, there would be lots of people who would kill to buy it from you immediately. ;)

Managed to handhold a D80, D200, 400D and the L1 in a Akihabara shop in Tokyo last week. As an ex-Leica R user, I thought the L1 looks rather huge and clumsy. It's also hefty. Handgrip not so good compared to the D80, D200 and even the 400D. Price is about S$3k.

Overall the D80 and D200 felt the best.

I loved the Leica optics. However I am a little disappointed with the L1 body's ergonomics.

Let's see when it becomes available.
no doubt nikon always offer one of the best ergonmic DSLR, but can't say L1 body is bad since it is trying to imitate classic SLR design

Those who have deeper pockets can go for the Leica version of the L1 instead.... the Leica Digilux 3... due to be exhibited at Photokina later this month
