is it a good price at $515 ah

Not sure about local warranty sets, but the best deal I've noticed so far is a HK-based shop on Lazada.sg selling export sets (no SG warranty) at S$615, with an ongoing $100 voucher promo, that works out to $515.

Nice one ;)
But I will pay the extra $7x for the local warranty though. That said, it's still just <$650 for a bnib local warranty set , nice price

Agree with ya. As Lazada doesn't seem to have a good review system, tend to stick with local-based sellers to be safe. With international sellers, a bit hard to gauge their track record. Buying from a non-reputable store like that has its risks, later end up with a $515 paperweight also no point. :bsmilie:

Agree on lazada, I came across a buyer's review/feedback on the apple lightning cable ad saying that the buyer received a fake product. It was quite a while ago. That comment is still there. Seems to me that lazada doesn't really bother about what sellers are shipping out and not the least concerned about after sales follow-up.

Lazada provides the platform for the individual sellers to peddle their goods.

I just received my 15/1.7 ordered from there a few days ago and it was quite a smooth process with updates for every step of the delivery process. Had gotten a local set instead of the export set as I realized there's few or nil options to guarantee an exchange should it turn up dead on delivery.

I believe lazada has certain terms and conditions for their sellers to abide by eg no porn, no drugs etc and I believe counterfeit goods should be at least one of them. Should expect lazada to act on this. Otherwise I would not have much confidence buying through lazada.

Counterfeit goods is different. If one passes off something not Panasonic-manufactured as a Panasonic item then that's counterfeit.

And so ... The point ? Whether it's an authentic or counterfeit Apply cable I wouldn't know for one and I can't judge. it's a camera forum here.

I only shared my experience with having gotten the PL15/1.7 from them and said its good to be careful when buying and I'm glad mine turned out fine.

I am thinking of getting either the oly 17mm f1.8 or pl 15mm f1.7. I already owned the oly 25mm f1.8 so i am thinking of getting a wider lens. Any recommendations?:)

Bro Keith, u've used the 17mm 1.8f before. how do u compare it with the PL 15mm 1.7f besides the focal length?

The only thing that irks me is that I can't use the aperture ring on an Olympus body. Otherwise I'm quite pleased with the P15/1.7, especially at the price I paid for it.

Performance wise (AF speed etc) it's similar to the O17/1.8 but it seems to offer slightly better contrast throughout the whole aperture range.

Wide-open I do find the P17/1.8 sharper than the O17/1.8 up till F2, at F4 onwards these 2 lenses are very very similar coming to sharpness.

When the 15mm is used on a Panasonic body, how do you guys combat the lack of OIS when not using a tripod? Thanks.

It's really back to the applying the basics of handling :) 30mm isn't that far a focal length.

that's also the reason why the longer focal lengths like the 42.5/1.2 have OIS built in while shorter ones like the 15/1.7, 20/1.7 and 14/2.5 don't.

That said , some Pana bodies like the GX7 do come with in body stabilization.

The general rule of thumb of shutter speed = 1/[focal length] is always helpful as a start. Just adjust FL based on crop factor. For this case 1/30 which is in most daytime / bright situations will not see shutter speed going this slow.

Thanks, guys. :)

personally trust amazon.jp more than lazada. my 15mm arrived today, JPY50000 for lens & kenko filter, JPY 1940 for handling and ems delivery via tenso...so in all abt $600. didnt mind the warranty as I'll be based in japan sometime later.

If it's Amazon, of course it's more trustworthy. They had even sent me 2 x Extreme Pro cards by accident and told me to keep it out of goodwill when I asked to have them returned.

That said, I wouldn't compare a non warranty set vs a warranty set in this manner , especially when I'm not the one based in Japan later. If people are fine with using export sets ; I think it's fine as afterall it's a personal choice.
