Hi guys in CS, you know the typical rules when taking competitions.. like "must be printed in 8R or S8R" kind of stuffs? But sometimes the pictures you take are cropped.. and it becomes a square pic... is it still eligible for competition as long u print in 8R?

It depends on the rules. Most competitions allow colour correcting, colour enhancement but will not allow editing that add/remove objects or change the meaning of the picture. Hence such a drastic cropping would probably not be allowed.

However, this brings about the question whether 6x6 medium format or panaromic shots should be cropped to fit 8R or S8R, left uncropped with empty space or be printed on a different sized paper. Can anybody answer this question?

When the rules says 8R or S8R, it is normally for ease of writing. In most cases, it should be understood as "the longest side (vertical or horizontal) must be 10" (8R) or 12" (S8R)". As crop***g is part of a photographic presentation, it should be accepted in competition. During judging, some judges would make comments like "this picture will look better if the author crop off the top/bottom" or something liek that.

Film formatt is not a problem so long as you can get the lab to print it at 8R or S8R, unless it is stated in the rules that must be taken on a 35mm/135 camera.
