Hi all:D
Any good recommendations for photography books?
The books are mostly expensive and plastic covered
so you can't tell if its worth buying.

yup the local library has a big collection of photography books, I am actually very surprised when I first saw it.

Kino in takashimaya has alot where u can flip thru to see if itz for u.

If not, the libraries (above Kino) really has lots of good stuff really. You dun really have to buy. :)

Thanks all for the directions:thumbsup:

Perhaps you can tell us what kind of photography you're interested in? Yup the library is a good source of photography books, but I supplement it with magazines which I find more up to date.

Practical Photography is a pretty interesting read, though its a mite expensive cos its from the UK.

Try visit Basheer Bookshop at Bras Brasah 4th Floor, they still have some photography books from Rotovision on sale for $10 - $15  . Was there this afternoon, there are hardcover books on portraits, macro, landscapes, extreme sports, weddings, etc... Go grab them. It's really a bargain.

For one of the bes collection of photography books, why not visit Riceball photo Bookstore at Adelphi Basement.

Look for Mr Zhong Ling, the boss. He's been a great supporter of the Clubsnap photo community among others and he specialise in bringing in photography books, both film & digital ones from all over the world.

He has some very good books by the photo masters like Richard Avedon, Sally Mann, Diane Arbus, Robert Capa. Irving Penn etc. Got the hard to find Sally Gall's Subterranea from his shop after he hunt around the world for me for 3 months.

Can get him to hunt for some of the titles that you are looking for as well.

See his website www.riceball.com.sg

I do concur that Riceball is an excellent place to get photography books. Zhong Ling is a really nice guy and he wouldn't mind if you just browse. I have done it many times and he's alright with it. Can even flip through the magazines if you want. Haha.

I'm actually quite interested in landscape, abstract and portraits.
Any recomendations?

The library has a pretty good range for landscape and portrait photography. Just check out the photography section. I didn't see any books on abstract photography but maybe its cos I wasn't looking for it!

Can't really recommend you any title in particular because books are catered to different skill levels with different focus. Have a look and borrow what suits you!

eg. Some portraiture books foucs on studio portraiture and discuss a lot of lighting techniques
and technical setting. Others may focus on posing and group portraits, while some just
cover a little of everything.
