Here's another set of pictures from the Fujifilm X-E1. This time round, I had the chance to use this camera for on an actual event instead of trying it out on stilll life subject.
I happen to be around Tanjong Pagar Area and saw a lion dance troupe heading towards the Fuji Xerox Tower. Tailed them and saw the troupe preparing to perform for Fuji Xerox and I thought it would be a good idea to try out this camera. I mingled with the crowd and set the X-E1 to aperture priority mode. ISO was set to 2000 as the sky was getting gloomier by the minute. Furthermore, it was an indood setting with minimum artificial lighting at the lobby area of Fuji Xerox Tower. The natural light breaking in through the glass ceiling was not very helpful given the current condition of the weather. Just in case you are wondering what lens had I mounted on the X-E1 body, it was the kit lens 18-55mm f/2.8 to 5.6. I reckoned I will be shooting at 18mm most of the time and probably a bit of the longer end of the zoom if I need to close up on the lions although I was trying to avoid doing that as the widest available aperture would be 5.6 if I chose to zoom all the way there.
Again, this camera is not meant to do well for moving subjects. The electronic viewfinder still have lagging impact but as you use the camera more and more, you will realize that it helps to be able to anticipate movement - afterall, street photography subjects are highly unpredicatble and it helps to develop a keen eye of things around you as they appear, disappear, change its direction, etc.
What I really love about this X-E1 is the dynamic range that it is able to record on each images taken by this camera even at high ISO and dull lighting condition. Truly a great camera if you are able to understand its limitations and work around it. Though it is not going to replace my set of equipment for more serious work like architecture, this lens will go places with me especially on daily shoots and while going places to capture memorable moments.
Here's the set of pictures that were keepers for me (There were wastages but it was due to the environment - too many people shoving around to get pictures of the lion dance and the god of Fortune).
more to come ...
