Today I tested the following:

Adroit Photo Recovery (US$ 39)
PC Inspector smart recovery (freeware)
Lexar Media Image Rescue (free with some CF cards)

Tested on an 8 Gb Transcend CF card with photos deleted blank

Results

PC Inspector smart recovery
Super Slooooooow scanning... With all advanced scanning turned on, took about 5 hours. Best results ! ! ! Recovered 949 jpg files ! ! ! :)

Lexar Media Image Rescue
Not as slow, but still a long wait... With all advanced scanning turned on, took about 4 hours. Recovered 932 jpg files. :)

Adroit Photo Recovery
Saw the claims so hand itchy (and quite free) so go and buy a copy to test the full capabilities... Software runs very quite fast. Even with every one of the advanced scanning features turned on, took less than an hour. Turned out to be the worst of the lot. Recovered only 242 jpg files. Funny thing is that there are 3 photos that it recovered which the other two software missed out... hmmm...

Conclusion... Free stuff can be good
