philosophy of camera gear acquisition

1. Buy the best that you can afford
2. Buy the best, forget the rest
3. Try the essence of each brand
4. Find a good reason, or any reason, to buy
5. The more the merrier
6. Listen to your heart

this is so true.

i remember when i first got into photography i was telling my friends... i'll stick with the d5000 FOREVER! (and they were telling me to get the d90 back then)

did I listen? noooooooooooooooo....

"don't buy, borrow"

Convince utself there is always a resale value.

you will be assimilated, resistance is futile

what I say:
"standard zoom and 50mm f1.4 are sufficient"

what I do: :kok:
"keep reading forums and reviews for new gears. skip the 1st batch to avoid bug. go to shop, see look ask; if never available then must be good because of high demand, so I buy and play around (and then it gathers dust in the cabinet)" :embrass:

For me, I bought almost everything preowned except for a couple of minor stuff. Ex tripod, flash bender, sling, etc.

I would love to own the best prime, super zoom and wide angle lenses but I am not sure how often I would be using them. So, I start with basic lenses such as 50 (f1.8), 17-50 (f2.8) and 70-300.

My philosophy will be, over time I may slowly upgrade and off load some of those lenses I don't use. Whether I will go FX or stay DX, up till now I have no idea. So, no sure don't do anything yet.

Most importantly, I must enjoy what I have and doing. Photography has given me self satisfaction and I am able to share it with others since I took up this hobby almost 2 years ago.

agreed, keep it simple,
all the camera must only have one digit, all the lenses must be smaller aperture value.
the best is spend 20k can only buy one camera and one lens.... kekekekke

Feel like buying, BUY
Don't feel like buying, also must BUY becos everyone else is buying
Every new upgraded equipment that comes out, BUY
Collect paycheck, BUY
Collect angpow, BUY
Kena poisoned in CS, BUY
once another brand comes up with a new cam, SELL EVERYTHING and switch systems
Repeat all the above steps until you are bankrupt or your significant other boots you out.
