PENTAX K-01 & smc PENTAX-DA 40mmF2.8 XS - Official Embargo Date: 2/2/2012

Someone did a photoshop to make full black colored one and actually I find that I like this version the best.

But I'd make do with the black knobbed one too...

.... There is a resemblance between this camera and the Ricoh GXR.

wonder if they did a drop test from 1.6m and how many components break inside?

I think the size from the front is ok but its really kinda thick from the top compared to other mirrorless cameras.

Mind you this is without any lens attached.

Though I must say that the design is slowly growing on me.

Yes, the more I compare it with that nifty web page to other mirrorless cameras it really isn't that bad. Here's the front compared to EPL-2. (they don't have EPL-1):

Something that we need to keep in mind is that the X100 comes with a fixed lens... But M4/3, NEX, all these have lenses which aren't too small. They have pancakes, but the range is not as wide as Pentax's.

Personally though, I would only use this paired with pancake lenses or small lenses (e.g. FA 50mm f/1.4).. Though come to think of it now, no VF means no VF leakage for long exposures. :bsmilie:

Anyways, it's all talk, until we get our hands on the real deal, then talk becomes more than just talk. :bsmilie:

Look how big it is!

True, but all this is really on paper.
We really got to see and hold one to know if its really big to be bothersome or will it fit the hand and grip just right.
Of course I'm hoping for the latter, but will only know when I get to see it in the flesh.

From front view, might be around the same, but the depth of the cameras is where they differ quite a bit

I must say that I like the fully black one the most too! :)

Tot we shall compare to Fuji XPro1 more apple to apple ? Both are APSC sensor and lens changeable.

Hhhmmm wonder the apples from pinoy overall will still be tastier than apples from china

Poisonous :p

The pancake lens looks good

why so many discussion on the body but not the new pancake?! haha i want the new pancake so much more than the body lol.

so thin and looks like it will be very affordable like the da35mm f2.4. if it has decent center sharpness at wide open it will be a winner!!! cant wait for sample images taken with the new pancake!

Would have been keen on the new lens too. Love the DA40 when I had it, the slimness is just so cool. But I needed a fast lens and picked up a third-hand FA43 instead.

I am swooning at the design. The blocky look is very nice, dunno why so many haters.

Same here, I find the design very appealing. I was a bit taken aback as my expectation of a mirrorless camera is a slim body. But this camera actually look cute and cool at the same time. I think the designer did a good job. If... I have the extra cash...... I would pounce on the yellow grip one.. :D

Anyway the roadmap is making me very excited. Eyeing on the tele-prime and wondering how the limited zoom will be like. Up till now we only have limited primes.
And I'm a fan of limited lenses :D

I think a lot of people will be comparing this against the Nex-5N, which

1. has a similar sensor
2. is significantly smaller
3. and most critically, quite a bit cheaper.

Granted, the K-01 does have

1. SR
2. More native lenses available

But I feel that it is hard to make a case for this camera at its current indicated price...

Mm. To address point 2: These smaller-sized mirrorless cameras are only really useful when paired with a pancake/small lens. Else with a decent zoom, the size advantage is utterly demolished, besides the lack of balance issue. One might as well go for a full-fledged DSLR.

Here's where Pentax has an advantage with its available range of DA Limiteds and even FA Limiteds. (Seriously, is anyone planning to use a zoom lens with the K-01? Considering its lack of OVF and EVF.)

Point 3: Launch price seems to be around 900 to 1000. Will definitely drop in time.

yes..me. i was using Pen with adapter and Zuiko 50-200 f2.8 ~3.5.
planning to get K-01 with pancake, and as well may be 60-250mm f4. no VF is good, i only shot with LCD.

seriously, I dun feel anything disadvantage.

whatever your point is, it all depends on how technology grows and probably mirrorless will get better lens will get faster

Will we get to see it in action on Saturday?

Yes, you'd definitely see the camera in action tomorrow, or we can say today, if you come to the outing ;p

Oh. I'm not saying it's wrong, just surprised people do actually shoot using LCD only with bigger zoom lenses. It seems kind of awkward to me. But of course, it's only me, and I'm no expert in such things,

Because I'm too used to ovf I guess, and I also need to get out more to see what others are using/ doing. But again, nothing wrong with using LCD. Sorry if I give the impression otherwise.
