Singapore, Singapore, Singapor
On the 24th April 2017, Nikon announced the D7500

you can see the thread via this link
http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1669535

Thanks to Nikon Singapore, I am able to do a side by side comparison of the new D7500 (beta model) together with it's bigger brother the D500
First lets look at the D7500

I have spent couple of hours to make comparison today :sweatsm:
D500%20vs%207500%20vs%207200%20rev1_zpskj7gihnu.jpg

Inherited the sensor, image processing engine, and some features from D500, D7500 is worth the upgrade !

thanks Jeff7id

The D7500 is Smaller and lighter than the D500 and has the AF illumination light but lack the 10 pin connector and PC sync terminals

34615299350_9155291a71_c.jpg

the D7500 has a rectangle viewfinder and no joystick, i configured the AE-L/AF-L button to serve as an AF-ON button.
note the difference of the LCD screens

A major complaint is that the D7200 had 2 SD card slots while the D7500 only has one
The D500 has 2 slots, one for XQD and one for SD. I guess one for speed and the other for backup.

I would have liked the D7500 to have 2 SD Cards slots but it is not a deal breaker for me.

The camera strap lug also follows the consumer range type
Both have built in Wifi and Bluetooth for Nikon's Snapbridge technology (Still needs work but going in the right direction)
But the D7500 lacks NFC

again here you see the difference between the consumer and pro level cameras in the dials and modes.

on the top you will notice that the D7500 has a smaller LCD display and a consumer control dial
the other button layout are the same for both (shutter, ISO, video and exposure compensation)

The D7500 also displays the information on the rear LCD screen (something that i would switch off)

on the other side, you will see the covers for the interface ports
they both have HDMI output, Mic and headphone interfaces

the differences is the the D500 uses Super Speed USB (USB 3.0) and a 10-pin remote terminal while the D7500 uses Hi Speed USB (USB 2.0) and a normal accessory terminal (which means cheaper accessories)

34615298040_f067ee28d0_c.jpg

on the bottom you will notice that the battery orientation is different and the D7500 does not have contacts for a vertical grip.
the position of the tripod mounting screw is the same and the D7500 has a deeper grip than the d500, similar to the grip of the D750 (I prefer the deeper grip)

34615297380_8eef2f2be1_c.jpg

the D7500 also has a built-in flash and can be used as a commander for CLS, you can't do that on a D500

Rear LCD Screen

34615291200_cde6fa95d8_c.jpg

Left D7500, Right D500

As you can see the tilting screens are very different

34615291980_1c296fb311_c.jpg

the D7500 has a thinner 3.2", 922000 dots LCD screen, 170 degree viewable and touch sensitive. with brightness adjustment and eye sensor control on/off.

34615291610_939e3c760a_c.jpg

the D500 has a thicker 3.2", 2359000 dots LCD screen, 170 degree viewable and touch sensitive. with 5 levels of brightness adjustment.

ok hungry already, going to have lunch and come back and post side by side hi ISO noise tests, this time with access to the full sized JPEGS

in the meantime, we have a free hands on session on the 10 of june, with nikon freebies and makan.

High ISO Noise tests
This is the full images from the Nikon D7500, below this i will post 100% crops of both D7500 and D500 side by side
Now you can see if you get the image quality of the D500 for the price of a D7500, to me this is a deal maker

Without cheating, guess the ISO of the image above.

Looks really similar, I guess it is true, it is the same sensor and image quality for a lot less money

If you want to see the full image and pixel peep, go to the respective album on my flickr account

BTW the full image posted was shot at ISO 12800, impressive
now this is pro quality features in a consumer body and at consumer prices

now how does the Auto focus perform?

ON a rainy morning i went to the park and shot some cyclists coming towards me

This image was taken with a beta model of the Nikon D7500

objective was to test the Auto Focus and the buffer capacity

Not that he was cycling really really fast, but all shots were in focus, so far so good

next was to shoot raw plus JPEG fine and see how many shots i could take before it started to slow down

Now change image quality to JPEG fine and shot a few cyclists, not that there were many people cycling in the rain.

average out to about 100 JPEGs before the buffer became full, please do not machine gun 100 shots, train yourself to know the right time to get the decisive moment, maybe 5 shots

I would say that I had fun with this new camera, it is a very capable camera at a really affordable price
I would call it a D500 hiding in a consumer body, the images are as good as the D500, just that it is just a little slower.

I am waiting to buy one myself, especially with the newly announced AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20MM F/4.5-5.6G VR lens

try it our yourself at Singapore wake park on 10 June, cable skiers are a challenging subject and will make full use of the D7500's strengths and the super tele lenses.
