Creative Play
Photography workshop by Etienne Clement
When it comes to creative play, there are two types of children. Those who build structures and those who build stories. The task of the workshop Creative Play is to produce one photograph where these two types of play are weaved together in both world.
Date: 19 & 20 Feb 2011 (Sat & Sun)
Time: 10am 6pm
Venue: Goodman Arts Centre, 90 Goodman Road (nearest train station is Mountbatten on the Circle Line)
Participants will have to:
1) Choose from various sources of inspiration, a starting point that will define the future piece.
It can be:
- A personal experience - a memorable event, a dream, a fantasy etc
- A master painting of your choice you may feel needs a new interpretation
- An adaptation ie. from literature to photography, from music to photography
2) Gather all props and ingredients needed for the piece prior to the workshop (eg. printed photographs for backdrop, 3D models, figurines, toys, art materials like glue, scissors, cutters, ruler, cardboard, colours).
3) The workshop
Day one: Project presentation by each participant, production, critique, further tutorials
Day two: Brief introduction to macro photography, production, shoot, final photographs presentation
4) What will you learn?
The participants will first gain hands on experience and knowledge on how to create a macro 3D world, a theatre where they can freely construct, a site for play and an area of experimentation. Once captured on camera and transformed into 2D, the participants will see their own created spaces radically altered, for they start to disrupt the viewers perception of 'real' or 'unreal'.
