beside the torpedo thingy, that frigate was not sailing in its given normal operational route, now that is a question ? why such different direction on that very night ?
It is a warship.
Not a merchant ship.
Sailing into or near to waters of a country they are technically still at war with.
When in such danger zone, surely SK warship not kooning right?
Must be super alert in such dangerous waters.
So how come SK warship cannot detect the so-called submarine?

cause they ended with a ceasefire treaty. not peace, but ceasefire. meaning they arent supposed to shoot at each other for no good reason.
and regarding the torpedo, i believe it was mentioned in ST that it was a human torpedo, or something along that line. where it is actually quite small, pretty much undetectable to begin with

when u blow a torpedo, i believe its only the tip end that has explosives. the propellor shld be relatively undamaged on the other end.
either way, today ST seems to imply sg stance that Nkorea did it. i'm waiting to see china's development, for if they do find the findings conclusive, which i hope they do, it would certainly carry more weight, seeing they are allies of Nkorea.

China is a "peaceful" nation. As always it will took a neutral stand because it is not their own ship that sank.

well. but their only allies are in trouble. once nkorea is gone, china will be alone surrounded by a bunch of democratic countries. Nkorea is the nearest neighbour they have :bsmilie:

Technically, China and NK are allies. But practically, NK does not seems to treat China as an ally. NK only wants food and oil from China for its army. NK is a ''military first'' nation, whatever their GDP majority goes to the military, food and oil goes to the military. To make things simple, NK does not in reality treat China as a big brother, only a friend who have advantages to take.
If you have know after the 1st Korean War, there are no Chinese memorials burial sites for the People's Volunteer Army (PVA) who helped the NKorean Army. The 'Dear Leader - Kim's father' was instead honored as the one who 'repelled' the Americans and 'won the war' by its government. In its history, only the Korean People's Army 'fought the war bravely', no mention of the PVA's heroic deeds. Also there are no mentions of food aid from China in NK.
This time, if China turn its back on NK, NK is the one who would not start a war. China also know if it is NK to sink the warship. A joint sanctions will pressure NK to give in. If NK wont give in, it might be a total destruction for NK in war, and you will see a 'pro-Chinese' NK leader replaced as the head of government for NK. China also wont want a war, it might turn out to be '2nd Agfhanistan in Asia' for the PLA.

Fighter jets can evade enemy SAM or Air-to-Air missiles.
But what about navy ships - are they sitting ducks that are easy target to enemy torpedo fired from Subs or even from navy ships. Are navy ships that defenceless or they need some other forms of protection?
Just imagine a torpedo fired from a small ship at a huge aircraft carrier - dunno if a torpedo could sink an aircraft carrier. :think:

harder for them to dodge. usually sends counter missile and intercepts. u can easy fly at mark 3 in air, in water not so much.
usually they have anti missile system one lar. dunno why cheonan so easy sink. could be because human sub torpedo.

One article claims there maybe a US submarine that was sunk near the same place.
And the Korean diver who died was diving rescue for the US sunken sub.

Well if they do go to war between SK and NK,this will definatly have a huge impact on the Asia economy especially for China.
War breaks loose,other parties will suffer from the side effects.I doubt that some may want war so they can start a war economy between organizations of each county involved.

oh yea in regard to ur conspiracy theories...
check out ST today regarding the NS korea issues. seems like Nkorea has unleashed a series of cyber attacks by spreading word that south korea and many ppl are doubtful regarding the findings, by posing as south koreans themselves.

i wont take the theories heavily. i'm still more likely to rely on each goverment's views and findings. and mainly china, since its their ally at trouble, any finding could draw either the world against them, or the loss of Nkorea. either way it wont benefit them.

b. a torpedo is fired few days/weeks ago and when part of it is salvaged, there are barnacles grown extensively on the propeller blades. Barnacles take a long time to grow.
c. the drive shaft looks straight and true and still in one piece after the contact and explosion. The torpedo is propelled at great speed. The warship it sank is metal hulled and sailing through the waters. when both contact, even if there is no explosion, at the very least the torpedo drive shaft should be a little bent. After such a great explosion, still can find the drive shaft in one piece and in great condition.

to address B, are those really barnacles? i mean if it was such a glaring mistake, the armed forces would had realised. they look like metal that hasnt been corroded yet. or maybe torpedo has been sitting under the ocean for a long time before use.:sweat:

and midget subs cannot travel at great speeds. the diver would had died if it tried to
estimated fastest speed of a midget sub, 19 knots. thats 9.7m/s, if my google calculator is right, 36km/hr. tats crusing already wad.

After WW2, was there any naval war where a ship was sunk by a torpedo or missile?
The only case I remember was at the Falklands war where a British ship was sunk by an Exocet missile.
It looks like firing a torpedo or missile at sea is pretty rare and even more so for a warship.

in the long run, the North will surrender to the South. Those new young leaders of China will think differently from current old ones, they will be more concerned about economic growth ~ make money etc.. and distanced themselves from NK. NK without support from China will eventually close shop and quit. Free food aid all the time ?? i dun think future leaders of China will like this idea ...
china has agenda for supporting nk.
