Nikon Coolpix 885

Back in 2001, the highest MP I manage to get hold of is the 3MP, Nikon Coolpix 885. Now, only 10 years later, average cameras now above 10MP and pro ones 20MP. Camera technology have come a long way. In another 10 years, we should have 30MP to 60MP cameras avail for the consumers I think.

I am afraid it does not work this way, bro. Your assumption is based on average few MP growth per year. However, there are some other factors to be considered. Some manufacturers did have the MP overshoot and trying to solve this problem e.g.: processing, practical & supports.

Ha I still have this camera. Can't imagine I paid $1k plus for it. As with all Pns at that time, battery drain out very fast

I think the megapixel race is gradually dying down with 16 to 20+ megapixel models... which is about right, because i wouldnt want to have to manage 30 MPX files.

not true... you see Canon, their ixus series use to be 14 megapixel but now drop back to 12... same goes to Sony with their 16 megapixel to now 12/14 megapixel as well....

now many brand are squeezing Full HD movie and CMOS sensor into their camera...
