Nikon 85mm 1.4 or Carl Zeiss 85mm 1.4?

Hi there,

I am considering buying a 85mm lens and considering one of the above. Has anyone used both of the lens before and what is the difference between the 2? Is the Carl Zeiss len fully comparable to my D700? Appreciate your help on this. thank you so much.

How comfortable are you with manual focusing in all sorts of light conditions?

I know the focusing screen on the 700 is pretty OK for manual focusing with large aperture lenses, but I know of people who never got the hang of manual focusing.

If manual focusing will in any way be a concern, go for the Nikkor.

AF vs MF. In this case the draw of the MF being the purported better IQ

Assume I am fine with either, is the quality of the Zeiss lens better than that of Nikkor? I notice this Zeiss lens is make in Japan. Is this true?

MFvsAF aside,
the zeiss is a bit more contrasty than the nikon.
but the boken of the nikon looks more pleasant.
other than that, both are really good lenses.

I had ask this question also... In the end i end up buying Cz... Color is better but I still misses the AF version....
