I think the dangling carrot is really juicy this time.
Since the gahmen (or is it the STB) did not favour the A1GP, then this is the Real McCoy - dun screw up lehhh !!!

well maybe this time round things may move faster and we get 2 for the price of 1 ? ;)
F1 + A1GP = VERY happy motor racing fans ;p

Haha... will the racers have to pay ERP?? :bsmilie:

Wouldn't Singapore's close proximity to the KL Grand Prix exclude our country from being a contender? Not familiar with the F1, maybe some more enlightened soul can shed some thought on this.

Bernie has already given the green light. All S'pore needs to do now is to submit a proposal.

I reckon the circuit will very likely be in the new Marina bay area overlooking the skyline. S'pore will want to create an Asian version of Monaco with the new Casino around the vicinity.

why would u say no way for SG streets?
Monaco streets isnt much better. In fact, there's tht infamous "hump" that all drivers hv to drive around on one of the straights in Monaco.

anyway, melbourne is not actually a street circuit. it's just a make-shift kinda circuit tht uses normal road as part of it.

The entire melbourne circuit is for normal road use not part of it. I drive around that stretch of road almost everyday.

Boy oh boy, if Singapore really gets to host a city circuit F1 race, won't it be exciting!
But then...think of the traffic jams due to road closure...bleah. :sticktong

Must be held over the weekends when the roads are not so crowded.

We will have lots of ppl complaing as well. I used to get waken up by the "roar" of the F1 cars during their early morning practice. You have no idea noisy it is and I was staying about 3km away from the track. It was so bad & annoying I had to get out of the house.

To me the sound is pure magic..nothing can describe the feeling the first time you hear the engine. And every year i yearn to hear the high-pitch whine of an F1 engine.. that's why i ended up in Sepang 4 times already ;p

well, i'm not tht keen, since KL is a nearby. or even melbourne isnt tht bad a trip or shanghai. imagine hving tht much visitors to our already crowded place. on top of tht, closing down of critical road. street circuit is more likely a city circuit to promote SG's skyline. blah!

it's a street circuit. the Tuas speedway is only rated up to F3 standards.

Good to see that some people up there have woken up from their slumber. This will be the 2nd street circuit in the world, and the only one with skyscrapers in the backdrop.

Ya ... agreed good location! singapore can be the monaco of the east!

The whole grand prix affair (F1 & other feeder races) lasts at least a week long not to mention the preparation that needs to be done. We will probably be facing a month long of road closures and a week long of engine noises.

Sounds good to me already.;)

Don't think its that long.
Road closures would be abt 5 days max.
Actual F1 circus starts on maybe Thursday/Friday for practise and that's only for a few hours. Closure is more likely for Sat and Sundays. Those areas we speculate (like Marina Sq and all) are served by underpasses and MRTs, economic activities will not be too abruptly disrupted.
The economy will be flourish over those few days for sure.

Definitely not closed for entire week..
Check out this Pbase member with Monaco pictures. Seems like Monaco roads are opened to public right up to the event. The best thing about street circuit, the public can get VERY close to the cars/pit! See pictures to believe

Watch this video for a comparison of speed between normal road cars and an F1 racer.
err.. the F1 car on the video is a 1999/2000 spec V10 McLaren Mercedes
This year they are running V8s... but they are still as fast as ever.

My feel is that we should go for a street circuit. Agree with Inimatad that Marina Bay area is ideal. Excellent showcase to the world with the skyscrapers behind and the smooth Bay.. Max Mosley may have said that there's only one Monaco... but we can be the next closest Hope this time our garmen don't chicken-out again like in the past.. F1 is an event that command highest rating after the Olympics and World Cup... it happens EVERY year and not every 4 years. You do not need to build plenty of venues and the disruption is only over 4 to 5 days. If Monaco can do it i don't see why we can't..

Hip Hip Hooray Triton! I totally agree..

but i've only just been to the F1 once ;p .. at Sepang this year.. did u get any pix?

i say they shud come share the $$, glory, buzz in Singapore! welcome anytime!

(er..how to post a pix here ah? :embrass: )

SG road quality is very good, shdnt be a problem for these cars. but i'll love to see them go thru the CTE tunnels. but aye, the marina area seems to be higher possibility since disruption to biz is smallest over there.

imagine if we've both the A1 and F1 here!

in fact, there're other events that SG can & shd bring in (IMHO) to boost the IR thingie. One is the american cup. although only every 4 yrs, but really lots of prestige.
