Newbie: IR filter for my canon 500D

Hi there,

I am looking to buy an IR filter for my new canon 500D. The lens i have is EF-S 18-55mm. I am not sure, what size (IR Filter diameter) do i need to choose.

I enquired in the shop & they advised me that there is 62mm.

Can some one please help ?

On the inside of your lens cap, as well as clearly marked on the lens itself, at the front, is the lens diameter.
