i have heard from my friend that the number of photo taken on a digital camera might affect the quality of the photo. Is it true ?

If you mean does repeated use of the camera result in denegration of a CCD/CMOS sensor then the answer is over a long period of time yes. However in most cases such a period of time/exposures is likely to be measured in millions of frames, by which time the mechanical side of the camera will have fallen apart.

This info is based on experience from the CCD/CMOS sensor based video camera world and it likely applies to one shot camera sensors as well.
