It is at a great price-point for a 'budget' DSLR, the kit lens is a good performer, and the built-in dust buster keeps your sensor dust-free. If you get the fundamentals of basic photography right, image stabilisation will not be critical to you. Don't fall into the trap of equipment envy, or the B, B, B money pit and you'll find that the E-300 will be more than sufficient for you as a beginner. The E-300 is more than suffice and will see you through as a beginner and as a serious amateur.

I was a newbie like you. My suggestion, think carefully what you want to do with this idea of yours. If you just want to try, suggest get something well within your budget. Once you step into the DSLR realm, it's a lot of money all the way (like me, I enjoy it so yes.....the money disappears fast). If that's not what you're really looking for - prosumer may be good. Yes, try the coming IT shows - better deals there.
