Need help on configuring IP.

Hi all,

need some help on how to configure the IP address for my laptop. Say my home requires the IP address to be autoassigned but my office needs manual input of specific IP. Once I click Autodetect of IP, the manual input IP (for my office) would be lost and I will have to reenter it whenever i bring the laptop to my office. Is there anyway to overcome this? i.e. for the lappy to have 2 settings of IP.

What Operating System are you using ?

For multiple networkings in Windows, you can create different user for different network.

e.g. user = home
You can configure the IP as DHCP

user = office
You can configure the IP as fixed.

i'm using Win XP...i did what u suggested..but when i configure IP for say Office, the setting in Home will also be changed leh....

or did i do it wrongly?

No, you are right.

Try the hardware profile configuration.

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > System
2. Click on the Hardware Tab
3. Click on Hardware Profiles button
4. Copy the current profile to a new profile and rename to Home or Office.
5. Reset PC to specific profile and configure the IP accordingly.
