National Day Parade Rehearsals 2015 (with timings)

Caught some NDP action in the past weeks, mainly the aerial displays and fireworks but not the mobile column as need to get to fireworks location in time ;p

Timings are based on the latest National Education Show 3, 2 more weekends to catch them

1. 5.48pm Red Lions parachuting down


2. 6.11pm Black Knights 'Five Stars' tribute to Mr Lee Kuan Yew

3. 6.46pm National flag flypast




4. 6.49pm '50' formation by 20x F16s, followed by bomb burst by 6x F16s (this shot was during combined rehearsals 1 where the bomb burst was just behind the '50' formation, subsequent rehearsals there was a longer separation)


5. 6.50pm 21 Gun Salute (If you are around Marina Bay area you may or may not want to sacrifice some shutter counts to catch this ha...)

6. 7.01pm Helicopter formation (led by 2x S-70B naval helis + 2x Super Puma, 2x Apache, 2x Chinook, in “Arrowhead” formation)


7. 7.01pm C-130 transport aircraft and 2x Fokker 50 Maritime Patrol aircraft in the “VIC” formation


8. 7.02pm KC-135 tanker aircraft and a G550-Airborne Early Warning aircraft, escorted by 4x F-5 fighter aircraft

9. 7.02pm Black Knights performing 'Criss Cross' manoeuvre followed by 2x Black Knights executing a near-vertical climb


10. 7.03pm A F15SG doing a combat turn then a vertical climb with afterburners


11. 7.04pm 3x F-15SG execute ”Flat Burst” manoeuvre (this is the last of the aerial displays, can take a breather then set up for fireworks)

12. 7.34pm Chance to catch blue hour fireworks (single de-fished shot)


13. There will be short fireworks bursts around 7.43pm, 7.56pm, 8.06pm and 8.12pm then a short pause before the main fireworks start at 8.16pm. Enjoy

Eh nope #12 was taken with Tokina 10-17 fisheye (on full frame ;p) and #13 was taken at 16mm

ohhhh..... Cos the starburst resembles the samyang MF primes... I am a sucker for such starburst lol...
Are you still going to shoot more this coming preview or NDP? I guess I closing shop(fallen sick and still sick). Heard skypark will be close on actual day.

Icic... maybe also because I was using f22
My feel (no scientific basis heh) is that newer lens with their better flare control and maybe rounded aperture blades makes it harder to get starbusts hehe

I probably will go for 1 more then relax liao haha...

Around the Marina Bay area is quite good, that's the reason why it will be packed this 2 days

If not you have to look for vantage points further out, free ones will also be quickly 'chope-d'
