He is neither far nor close. Take some real close ups and some wide angle shots if possible.

Thanks for your comments. Will learn with times. Using 18-200mm and 200-400mm lens to take various pics but position was not very good as I am late and unable to be at the centre of the stage area. I am more on the left corner end so focusing a good position was out.

Yah, using both 18-200mm and 200-400mm lens but was out of focus as I was at the left corner end as the centre area was taken up by most of the other photographers.
