great pictures!

out of curiosity, why is it that sometimes you can see the entire pupil of the cat's eys (like puffy's above) and sometimes the pupil is tiny (like Mikey's)...? its got to do with the cat's reaction when it sees light or something like that right?

Really like how the blue back drop and blue eyes form the cat look :D

Thanks.
The eyes of some cats do react faster to the light from the flash than others. I usually could get shots with larger pupils from Puffy than from many of my other cats because of this. :)

Hi Tomcat... Nice series again from you... How ya gets your catz to pose like that. Cause I finds it hard to stable them. Not to mentioned also capture their attention to look into my lens. Another thingy is care to share your experiences on the look out of flash photography on cats, as the other time when I was post mine, I was being flame from someone trying to tell me the harm of sudden intense lights on their sensitive eyes. :dunno:

Thanks for viewing.
How do I get my cats to pose like that? The answer is with lots of patience :) . I found that it was very much harder to get them to pose in front of the backdrop as compared to freestyle shooting as I am now limited to shooting in one plane. Much of the time, they tend to face the backdrop rather than me :dunno:

As for flash photography, I have been flashing my cats for years now and none of them has gone blind yet or even showed any sign of eye damage. What I do find is that cats behave the same way as we humans do to flash photography... most of them very nonchalantly as if like "Oh, here we go again". Some will strike a pose, others will deliberately ruin your shot by suddenly coming towards you. One or 2 will anticipate the flash like some of us humans (me included), and blink just when you are about to snap the shutter. In any case, animals are just like humans, if the action hurts them, they will run away the next time they see the camera in your hand. They are really far more intelligent than what most people give them credits for, you know. ;)

Your pics did not look like it was very startling to the cat since it did not run away after the first shot. Also, they were bounced flash and not even direct into the eyes of the cat. You can tell this by the lack of 'red-or-green-eye' effect. It was a really cute kitty by the way. It's a pity that the owner (if there was one) did not care enough for it to keep it safe indoors away from the dangers of some of us cruel and psychotic humans and our cars.:(

Thanks for sharing ... Yar, it is a pitty the owner (if there is one) did not care enough seemingly... :( Anyway, I can't bring her back as pple staying under one roof ain't allowing it. And pets needs commitment which I can't have due to my job... I carried cat food with me nows-a-day, as whenever I saw her around during when I am back home late night, I'll feed her, and she seems hungry... poor kat...

cats pupils dilate only when dark( works like aperture). so if you wanna take them w rounder pupils you will have to off like or dim light, then you will be able to get rounder pupils.
