As above.

i had searched on the net and converted the images to sRGB but still, the colors looked muted (i.e much less contrasty) on Google chrome but they seemed to be fine on Safari and Firefox

Am I doing anything wrong here? Or is it just google chrome's problem?

Any help is appreciated :)

There is a section called Digital Darkroom for a reason.
You key word is 'colour management'. Safari and Firefox are able to recognize embedded colour profiles and display images accordingly. Internet Explorer is unable to do so, I'm not sure about Google. Have a look here and read up: Web Browser Colour Management Tutorial
Make sure all your images have the ICC profile embedded.
