Must you have a range of lenses that cover 18-200?

So the advise to start with the kit lens is to me, the most sensible one.

A kit lens with macro will be ideal.

that's true.. in which case, maybe 18-55 is really the best starting lens, it 's a nice range. there's a reason why it's the kit lens range.

if one wants variety, then get the 55-200 type of kit lens. all quite cheap, resale value also not that bad for most brands..
