Just wondering if there is an optimal general setting for shutter/aperture and others if you are shooting people indoors with low lighting. The shutter cannot go too slow because people are moving.

what gives? which shutter/aperture will u set in default to capture moments quickly and sharply

use manual exposure mode with flash
1/30 seconds
ISO800
aperture up to you

just throwing in 1 more parameter...

if have to make do with just build-in flash?

the just use the built in flash..since no choice already ;)

be careful in using the built-in flash, because of the limited range, some shots are better off with it off.

for available light shots, user111 has already given 2 key elements, jack up the iso, and make sure that shutter is at least 1/30 (to aviod effects of handshake). depending on lighting and contrast, auto-focusing could be an issue.

seeing that you can use the built-in flash, i would suggest that you buy / use a speedlight instead. this would save you a lot of headache in the longer-run.

it is possible to shoot in ambient...but it depends greatly on wat effect u wanna achieve...

cheers.
