Some Are Rapidly Losing It...

I would like to second the motion of one Mark C, from London, and offer my sincere apologies for the Guantanamo-esque torture perpetrated on the viewing public over recent times by one R. Benitez and his band of disillusioned, confused and aimless young men.

Also my congratulations to Keith, from Limerick, for distilling so clearly the problems with Benitez and his policy of buying awful (non)wingers and full backs. What must Steve Finnan (also from Limerick) think of the whole situation? Is it just me or does Rafa really not understand that this man has been, and could continue to be, one of the most effective full backs in Europe? Every time I see one of those other donkeys on the team sheet ahead of him it makes me want to stab someone, preferably Rafa or Arbeloa. Or perhaps Gordon Ramsay if those two were unavailable.

In relation to the lack of an Anfield roar, I think the people in the stadium last night probably deserve congratulations for sitting through it without slitting their wrists or starting a riot, and should be offered psychological counselling for post traumatic whatever-its-called. That silence was deafening, and you could feel something dying. That something was the lingering hope that Rafa Benitez was the man to end the title drought at Anfield. He won't. And once the Champions League and cup runs dry up, it'll be the end of the line for the once loved Spaniard.

It'll be a case of f**k off Rafa with your prozone and your "controlling the game", with your "second ball" and your "we must stay ****ust", with your selling Crouchy and keeping Kuyt, with your Gareth Barry and your goatee. Bugger off back to spain and take that **** on a stick with you, you control freak anti-football bore.

That is all.
Brian (my composure slowly unravelled as I wrote this), Ireland

Kuyt Will Be The Death Of Rafa

A commentator overheard a director at a Liverpool match in the late 1990s saying that if Roy Evans does not get rid of John Barnes, John Barnes will get rid of him. I would now like to update this and state that if Rafa does not get rid of Kuyt, then Kuyt will get rid of him.

Kuyt, a very hard-working player, is an average striker and a poor winger. He is the latest in a line of three expensive strikers, along with Diouf and Cisse, to have joined us, failed miserably as a striker and be shoved onto the wing.

Kuyt, at best, is a squad player. Ideal to send on to protect a lead, but not to create one.

His goal last night papered over the cracks of having him in the team. His goals last season did the same. This situation will continue. He will disappoint for weeks and then score a goal, giving him the breathing space to disappoint for the next month or so.

Liverpool will win nothing with Kuyt and I have a feeling that Keane will end up as striker number four in the aforementioned list because we look far better with Gerrard playing behind Fernando Torres.

Two games in, top of the league, into the Champions League, yet, in my opinion, we have less chance than ever and all because we never addressed the obvious wide problem this Summer. Rafa has only spent £10 million NET. (THAT IS NET) so far this summer, so maybe the reason we have not bought quality wingers is that the money is not there.
