Lens?

I guess this is the most stupid thread but since i am a newbie i just trying to ask...

since the other forum have thread about which is the most used lens, i am wondering what is what lens.

for eg, i know a UV filter is for using under UV light to filter off excess UV rays, but whats a polarizer & the rest of the lens, like 2x closeup...

These uv, closeup etc are known as filters not lens
