i would like opinon on the sigma 24-70mm f2.8 Vs cz 16-80 len. which is the better buy. what abt quality, is it better because of f2.8? thks

Go for the CZ bro. The Sigma may have front focus/back focus issues and although it's a f2.8 lens but the photos at f2.8 will be soft (at least on my copy). If you want a full frame lens then go for the CZ 24-70mm or the Minolta 28-75mm f2.8.

On your A700, the CZ 16-80 makes more sense. The 24-70 is a full frame lens, and you will lose a lot of the wide end on a cropped sensor.
