Hello Everyone,
I am considering a 8 by 10 camera.
Then I saw this. VDS camera

This camera is cheaper and lighter than the Chamonix:

Looking forward to hearing from everyone and what is the potential difference and if the chamonix is worth the extra money?
Thank you!
george
Welcome to the party... I have never used both before... so, nothing to comment.. lol but, both camera looks similar as they are both field camera. If you like more movements ( Tilt / shift ) or if you shoot macro, then you should worry more about the max. bellow extension and if the knobs are secure enough or free enough for your usage. If you like to use those OLD OLD lens, then I suggest you go for Deardorff, as the lens board is slightly bigger and hence easier to mount those older lens. And if you move them outdoors often, then weight is definitely a factor to consider. enjoy, Billy
I am using the Chamonix 4x5 camera. If their 8x10 cameras are built like their 4x5, then it will be a high quality one. Thanks for the quick reply and the tips!
I think weight is a consideration as I plan to shoot outdoors n just basic shifts is all I need and macro ( but no need super close, size of a fist is good enough)
But both are about the same in weight. Guess I just go with the cheaper one; hahaha
I am using the Chamonix 4x5 camera. If their 8x10 cameras are built like their 4x5, then it will be a high quality one. Never seen a VDS in real life but quite amazing for it to achieve much a light weight. No matter which one u go for, ask if they have existing stock. I would be quite wary paying the full amount upfront while waiting for them to build one.
