Light Grey not white. Termed LG Lens on my side of the world. Hard to find color variations and have the same optical quality as the normal black ones but then became collector`s items due to their limited run. The 70-200VR and the long telephoto lenses are still bring produced in limited quantities iirc and more readily available.

Favorite models for collectors are mainly the AFS28-70/2.8 and the AFS80-200/2.8.

Note that the light grey color is purely for comestic and is not a requirement to maintain performance.

No. It's purely asthetic reasons.

Nikon uses ED glasses, not flourite which are susceptible to heat, so black is fine, grey is just an option.

White would be a better 'reflector' of heat than grey, won't it?
