I usually use a lamp for basic lighting,match with different color glossy paper or different color light bulb,
to create different mood, and use anything i can find around me for my back ground scene
or even print it our from the computer to use it as my back ground. I also use photoshop to adjust the color or contrast of my images,
this is my whole process. Hope this helps.
