Hi all just like to seek help & issue from the seniors & old bird of CS on an incident that I encountered recently. Got 1 2nd hand lens from B&S forum but the Ultrasonic words were missing a few letters. Actually it is really not a big deal becos other than that everything else is perfect. Any advice on how the Ultrasonic words can be salvaged in anyway.............Thanks in advance!

You say some of the white in lettering has gone away???

Marcus - what do you mean by salvaging it? Like putting back the missing letters or making sure the rest of the letters dont go missing?

Personally I wouldnt be too bothered by the letters going missing. Performance >>> cosmetics. But everyone has their own preference :)

Yes Nikonzen the Ultrasonic word is in red & the middile part some letter is missing.
Ya richiemccaw1 what I mean is putting back the missing letters....Lol Thanks guys!

Welcome bro...

Unless the word is engraved in barrel I think it would be very difficult to restore lettering. However if word is engraved than this issue will be easier to deal with.

One option is maybe to wipe away rest of lettering lah. :D

What lens you use BTW???

Nikonzen its a 17-40mm F/4L USM

TS why not post a pic of the issue in question?

OK I looked at a picture of that model of lens to see these red letters you speak of. I think you are out of luck. Even if you could restore them they would probably just wear back off with use.

Personally I sort of like equipment like that...shows you are using camera a lot!

Just had an idea...maybe if you are or you know someone who is handy with a fine paint brush you could possibly use some type of enamel sign painter's paint and restore the red lettering that way.

Looks like the wording is silk screened on the lens barrel, so when is gone, it is gone.

since it does not affect it function, only cosmetic issue of an used lens, just leave it at it is.

If I may, unless you are looking to resell it for a profit, it really shouldn't be a problem.

I'd wipe UL SONIC off leaving the little U with ring symbol...then you say to everyone you have special version! :D

If you're good with crafts, it might be possible to DIY a repair using inkjet rub-on transfers/decal paper, then lay a protective clear coat over it to protect it? Paying an artist to do it would probably cost more than you're willing to pay.

The best way to make it look like new is to get that part replaced.
The part is called "sleeve ass’y fixed" (Part No.: YG2-2078-000)
It's available online and it doesn't cost a lot. It should be around U$30

I don't have the actual picture but it looks something like this

It will require some dismantling to replace it. Not really complicated but honestly, not worth the risk.
Just cover that area with gaffer tape if you feel uncomfortable

Thanks fatique been a great help & appreciate it
